Indications of Knee Replacement

- Severe osteoarthritis
- significant knee joint or bone trauma in young patients
- Ligament damage or infection that leads to severe osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Bone dysplasias – disorders of the growth of bone.
- significant knee joint or bone trauma in young patients
- serious valgus or varus deformity (where the joint angles inwards or outwards)
Contraindications
- Active infection
- Incompetent extensor mechanism
- Compromised vascular status
- Charcot joint (relative)
