Indications of Knee Replacement

  • Severe osteoarthritis
  • significant knee joint or bone trauma in young patients
  • Ligament damage or infection that leads to severe osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Bone dysplasias – disorders of the growth of bone.
  • significant knee joint or bone trauma in young patients
  • serious valgus or varus deformity (where the joint angles inwards or outwards)

Contraindications

  • Active infection
  • Incompetent extensor mechanism
  • Compromised vascular status
  • Charcot joint (relative)
